Almost Finished

The commission piece for Athens Hillel is nearing its completion. Backing and edging is put on and I over-quilted in a grid formation using a holographic gold thread that just sparkles. Who needs to spend hours sewing beads when there are such wonderful threads to be used!? (Well, me, but hey, sometimes fast is good too ) Next up the buildings and the quote. Yay!

Hello

It's been a very loooong time since anyone posted. The photos are the Lancaster Festival Artwalk show in July at the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce. The fiber pieces are my artwork and the watercolors are Donna Noice's.

I am currently working on pushing my quilts off the 2D surface. It's been a very interesting journey. Wish I could be at the meeting but will be in Chicago for a long weekend assisting a friend.

My Half Day Off

Well, I do take Saturdays, as a rule, but Thursday I allowed myself a good half day of school's out as all of May's goals had been met and I needed a break before starting the summer run. (Several deadlines at the end of August and the Lark project is due August 3). Here's a teaser of what's going on. The one thing I don't like about machine embroidery is that it is so much fun that I want to do more of it. Which will just need to be worked into the other projects. :) There are two more images at my flickr.

Library Show Looks Awesome

After madly working specifically to finish this piece for the library show (two full 8 hour days in a 90F + studio w/o AC) I am happy it was hung and that the whole show looks so totally awesome. So far everyone has gushed about it, and our article in the Messenger was nice. Y'all come on down and see (Athens Public Library 30 Home Street, Athens OH)

"Diverse Innovations"

We set a beautiful show yesterday at the library in Athens, Ohio.

Special thanks to Diane for keeping us all on task, you are a very gifted and gentle shepherd. Who said working with artists can be like herding cats? Lanna, thank you for your continuing faith in this group by providing such a wonderful venue. And even more importantly, for me anyway, for introducing me to such a wonderful group! Looking forward to seeing everyone again next Thursday evening for the opening!

Anna, June and me are looking forward to seeing all the work.

The blog is a good idea. Thanks Andi. I won't post often but I do enjoy reading your posts. As a new member of the IAA; I have to say I'm impressed with the group's energy and and innovation! I'm inspired by it all.

Last Minute Donkey Prep

For the show at Donkey, I decided to get crazy and make one more piece, this is Tiki Toad, he is about 36 inches wide by maybe 24 inches high and is made totally from stash fabrics and stash batting. I knew there was a reason I'd buy so many of the PolyFil batts when they were 1/2 off at JoAnn (I still have one whole one left after this, I would buy the crib size). Hanging it either during the QN opening (around 6pm or when everyone goes to the banquet) or around 11pm Friday night. Eeek. I think I'm a bit crazy, but I'd been waiting for a Donkey show for literally years (they lost my info so I got pushed further back in the queue when I finally spoke up again) and the Perk's show was just a hang what's already available, and as for the library show, well, I am playing with paint. But there will be some quilts for that, too :)

PS glad to see y'all here, this will be great! :)

"Gazing"

Hello!

Monarch Gallery's theme for the June show is Georgia on My Mind, i.e. Georgia O'Keefe. I grew some wonderful Gazania's the last two summers and have expanded on those themes. it's a little more direct approach than I have been working with recently. I have the basic composition, need to apply and quilt and embellish (lots of sequins and thread!). And as you can see I have been moderately successful playing with my new camera. Am exploring ways to photograph my work to post on the web, develop slides and share with family and friends.
